VTCT Level 4 Certificate in Laser and IPL
The VTCT Level 4 Certificate in Laser and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatments is an advanced qualification that has been specifically designed for beauty therapists.
This qualification is based on beauty therapy National Occupational Standards (NOS). This qualification is approved and supported by the Hairdressing and Beauty Industry Authority (HABIA), the standard setting body for hair, beauty, nails and spa qualifications.
Why is this qualification most suitable?
This qualification is the only Level 4 qualification offered by VTCT in Laser and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatments. The VTCT Level 4 Certificate in Laser and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatments is a vocationally related qualification and is focused on reducing hair growth and photo rejuvenation of the skin using intense pulse light and laser treatments. This qualification requires you to develop skills to carry out IPL and laser treatments. This qualification allows you to gather evidence in a realistic working environment or real working environment without the need for fee paying clients.
What does this qualification cover?
This qualification has been specifically designed for the 18+ age groups, builds on existing knowledge and understanding of therapy skills and will develop an enhanced repertoire of technical skills to prepare you for employment. You will have your skills assessed in a real or realistic working environment.
This qualification will require research; it includes the skills involved in providing a thorough consultation with the client to formulate a specific course of treatment, tailored to suit individual client needs, use laser an light treatments for skin rejuvenation and hair removal and to manage the health, safety and security of the salon.
What is VTCT?
VTCT is officially recognised by Ofqual – Recognition Number: RN5198. Ofqual are the UK Office reporting directly to the UK Parliament for qualifications and regulation.
What are the entry requirements?
You must be 18 or over to enrol on this course.
Learners who wish to undertake this qualification must also achieve the VTCT (ITEC) Level 2 Award in Infection Prevention (COVID-19) for Beauty Therapy and Nail Services qualification or a regulated equivalent, and attainment of a Level 3 qualification in a relevant discipline.
What is the course duration?
You will need to attend the academy for 4 practical days across 2 weeks, and complete home study assignments. Home study can be done in your own time, at your own pace. We recommend a minimum of 6 weeks dedicated home study.

Do you provide models?
Yes, we will provide all your models for you to carry out your practical treatments on, as well as require you to work on each other in your learner group.
Home study assignments can be submitted by email to the academy directly for marking and feedback will be given. Practical assessments will require you to complete a range of treatments which will be covered during your sessions at the academy.
On the rare occasion, VTCT may send an external verifier to supervise you doing a practical treatment, students may be hand picked at random to return for this.
